Islamic Education Curriculum

And We have sent to you a Messenger from amongst you,
Reciting to you Our verses, and purifying you,
and instructing you in Scripture, and in Wisdom,
and in new knowledge about things you did not know.
(Al-Baqarah, 2: 151)

The goal of an Islamic Education is to develop well-rounded and coherent Islamic personalities able to achieve their full potential in a nurturing academic environment.

Islamic Studies

We offer a comprehensive Islamic Studies curriculum that covers the areas of Quranic Studies, Seerah and Hadith, Fiqh and Ibadah, Morals and Manners, and Islamic History. Students have one period of Islamic Studies each day. In addition, Islamic themes are integrated into other disciplines. Students are given the opportunity to practice and what they learn as they start the day with a morning assembly, join the community in congregational prayer, and recite daily duas that have been memorized throughout the day.

The goal of the program is to develop an Islamic personality through the inculcation of Islamic values and nurturing of Islamic behavior.
Alhamdulillah this year for elementary school we have implemented "I love Islam " Curriculum which is an effective curriculum taught by many schools around the country, it introduces students to the essentials of faith and brings to light the historic and cultural aspects of Islam. The textbook is aimed at students living in the west so they can relate to the information and Inshallah create a balance of Deen and Dunya in their lives.
The Middle School curriculum is the "Learning Islam" Series, this is a continuation of of the elementary texts.

Arabic Language

The Arabic language program includes reading, writing, vocabulary, and oral communication. Students have four periods of Arabic each week. The emphasis in the lower grades is on letter recognition and sounds, numbers, thematic vocabulary, and oral communication. Students progressively learn to ask and answer simple questions, read and write sentences and are introduced to grammar. The class includes daily dialogue and students practice daily duas in Arabic. InshaAllah, our goal is to graduate students that can read the Quran and the Ahadith of our Prophet (PBUH) in Arabic with understanding.

Grades 2-4 and 5-8 are split into levels for Arabic classes, and starting this year we are using Horizons in the Arabic Language curriculum الآفاق في اللغة العربية This is used at many full time schools around the country. A workbook accompanies each textbook allowing the student to consolidate learning and for teachers to monitor and assess progress.

Quran

Alhamdulillah we have daily Qur'an classes for the entire school, lower grades (Pre K - 1st Grade) are taught seperately, each class by their grade.

Upper grades (Grades 2-8) are divided in to levels, there are currently 3 levels that students are placed in after a placement test.

Level 1 Beginners: In this level students are taught the basics of learning how to read the Qur'an using the well known and widely implemented "ahsanul Qawaid" book, students recognize the various forms of the alphabet and learn the signs (harakaat), fatha, kasra, dhamma, fathatain, kasratain, dhammatain, sukun, shadda, huruful madd, which in turn help them read and memorize the Qur'an.
Students in this level also begin to memorize the short Suwar from Juz 'am (30), the aim is to have them memorize 25/30 Suwar which they can recite in Salah on a daily basis.

Level 2 Intermediate:  In this level students are given a crash course of "Ahsanul Qawaid", more emphasis is placed on the latter lessons of the book and after this students are taught and encouraged to read from the Qur'an without any further aid.
Students also memorize the entire Juz 'Am (30) in this level, more emphasis is placed on Tajweed and correct recitation of the Holy Qur'an.
This level is for students who may have started or finished the Qaida or can read the Holy Qur'an but are not fluent and have difficulties in reading.

Level 3 Advanced: This level is for students who are fluent in reading the Holy Qur'an, the focus is to have the students memorize longer Surahs from Juz 29 and 28.

One of our greatest priorities is to have students who can read fluently from the Holy Qur'an, we have experianced many students who memorize very quickly Mashallah, but over years the memorized portion becomes weak and they are unable to review because they cannot read the holy Qur'an looking inside, therefore our aim along with memorization is have students who are able to recite the Quran fluently looking inside.

Alhamdulillah we also have a Hifdh Program for the more advanced students and for those dedicated parents who wish to benefit more from the school. The Hifdh program begins before school starts at 7:15am, students take a break for assembly and then resume untill 9am. This program is aimed for students who can recite fluently and are motivated to memorize the words of our creator.
